Dancing with Class All-Stars Foundation
Chicago Tri-Dance-A-Thon Annual Benefit
On Saturday September 28th, the Dancing with Class (DwC) All-Stars Foundation held their annual benefit, The Chicago Tri-Dance-A-Thon, to raise money to provide social and ballroom dance education for Chicago youth in under-resourced communities. The event was held at the May I Have This Dance studio on 5246 N. Elston.
Individuals and teams pledged 30 hours of dance in the big three social dance genres – Latin, Ballroom, and Swing – before crossing the finish line at the benefit. The event included professional performances by ballroom dancers Brad Courtney and Elisa Seja, salsa dancers Denita Gregory and Jermaine Baldwin and Latin dancers Itza Riedas and Jesus Villanueva. The highlight of the night was a special performance by the All-Star youth, during which they showcased their talents with a Latin medley and Swing dance. Participants enjoyed delicious food and beverages, and bid on impressive auction items, such as a flat screen TV, Callaway golf bag, and private lessons with Chicago dance pros. Top donors and sponsors include: Wildfire Restaurant, Middleton Partners, Jim Johnston, The Katz Family, Herb Roman, and Dave Burrage.
The DwC All-Stars Foundation currently supports a performance team of 24 middle school students representing 15 Chicago Public Schools. Funds raised from the Tri-Dance-A-Thon benefit will allow the program to double the number of youth served and provide even more advanced instruction and opportunities for current students.
Since its launch in June 2012, approximately 50 youth have received advanced training through the All-Stars Foundation. Students from the core Dancing with Class program, which serves about 60 schools and 3,000 students across Chicago, are nominated by teachers and invited to apply. The DwC All-Stars have performed at Chicago Summerdance, Navy Pier, and several other fundraisers, festivals and showcases.
